Wood crafts in India

Tree is a ancestor of man. Since human came in to existance, tree has been his most trusted companion. Wood is different from a tree as its the hard, fibrous substance composing most of the stem and branches of a tree or shrub. This substance is usefull in innumerable ways to mankind. In the construction of houses, furniture, kitchenware, toys, decorative etc. During the beginging of human race wood was used as important tool for gathering food, making abode and as a weapon too. Even though when man discovered other metals wood's importance did not diminish.
In later course wood's use began for craft purposes. As surface of wood can be carved and chiseled, wood became a beautiful medium of artistic crafts. As the time moved on we saw the application of woodcraft taking shape of uncountable splendid articles, and ornaments. In India art flourished in splendiferous styles. Wood craft has been done on woods of different plants and trees. Consequently, you see woodcraft on the traditional plants and rare plants also. You can see wonderful works on bamboo and cane even. As India is a rich country in culture, art and craft, on onlooker is able to look at myriad variety of wood sculpture. From the remotest ages the decoration of wood has been foremost art. We see picturseque designs of woodcraft all around. Their sheer minute artistic venture fascinates art lovers. Most striking factor about woodcraft is that from remote times the wooden jewellery has also been made. Today's fashion freaks run after beautifully crafted wood jewellery.
